Instructional Research Group is an educational research institute located in Los Alamitos, California. Our director, Russell Gersten, is a nationally renowned researcher in Education. We specialize in large-scale program evaluation field research in the areas of reading, mathematics, education of English Language Learners, and professional development. Federally-funded grants and contracts constitute the bulk of our research endeavors. Projects entail research involving classroom observation and other methods for assessing implementation, randomized controlled trials involving impacts of professional development approaches, response to intervention (RtI) in mathematics and reading, meta-analyses and research synthesis of intervention research, research involving English learners, and other related topics. Our research projects are mainly quantitative in design, but qualitative components are sometimes included. We often work in partnership with other leading experts in evaluation such as Mathematica Policy Research, MDRC, SRI International, RMC Research, and Edvance. In our brief 7-year history, we have been involved in several major national and state initiatives in the fields of education.
